WINDOWS ON THE WORLD: SATIRE MEETS REALITY, PART 3

• What happens when a clown takes over the city?
• Get ready for the next session of Fialta's new Sunday evening: “Windows on the World”. 

• Each week an interactive presentation will open windows on a variety of subjects from around the world.

• This week's “Windows on the World” will feature the climax of the “Satire meets Reality”-series. After we looked at examples, where satirists simply tried to be funny by interacting with the real world, this time we look at examples where comedians actually took real political power took political office or managed to change legislation. The first case we will look at will be Jon Gnarr, who in his previous life was just an Icelandic comedian. But following the recent financial crisis that hit Iceland particularly hard and crushed people's trust in established political parties and formed the „Best Party“, as an outsider's political alternative. In summer of 2010 Jon Gnarr was elected mayor of Reykjavik, the nation's capital, a position of particular importance for the whole country, as two thirds of Iceland's population live in the city. As a second example we will once again have a look at Jon Steward and the Daily Show, whose coverage of some issues led the US Congress to act on the matter
